New Regenerative Organic Certified® Malts!

Valley Malt Co-Founder Andrea Stanley with Chris Cashen of Breathe Deep Farm.

Valley Malt has released three new products, Pilsner Malt, Pale Malt, and Wheat Malt, that are among the first wave of Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) products to come to market.

Regenerative Organic Certified® uses the USDA Certified Organic standard as a baseline. From there, it adds important criteria and benchmarks that incorporate the three major pillars of regenerative organic agriculture (soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness) into one certification. Regenerative Organic Certified® is overseen by the nonprofit Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA), a group of experts in farming, ranching, soil health, animal welfare, and farmer and worker fairness. The ROA was founded by the Rodale Institute, Dr. Bronner’s, and Patagonia.

Valley Malt purchases barley and wheat grown by Breathe Deep Farm in Claverack, NY and by sprouting and drying it, transforms  it into one of the four ingredients of craft beer. “As the first ROC™ grain farm in the Northeast, we're committed to pursuing the highest possible standards in the field,” said Chris Cashen of Breathe Deep Farm. “Partnering with Ground Up brings this same high standard to the marketplace while providing quality food to our region and enabling us to take care of the land."

Valley Malt co-founder Andrea Stanley said, “All of the farmers that we work with care deeply about sustainable growing practices. Craft brewers want validation that their purchases are supporting a healthy food system, and Breathe Deep’s commitment to Regenerative Organic Certification® meets that demand. ”

The Valley Malt Regenerative Organic Certified® Pilsner Malt is perfect for lagers and ales and has a green tea, honey, and light cereal aroma.

The Regenerative Organic Certified® Pale Malt is used for ales and has deeper cereal aromas and flavors, similar to grape nuts.

The Regenerative Organic Certified® Wheat Malt can be used for wheat beers as well as a smaller percentage of the recipe for head formation and retention in New England IPA’s.

Craft brewers and distillers can purchase the new malts directly from Valley Malt.
